Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson (8) leaves the field after a game against the Kansas City Chiefs at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium.

What was supposed to be the weekend where the Baltimore Ravens revived their 2025 season might turn into a wake.

After hoping that two-time MVP and superstar quarterback Lamar Jackson would return following a month out due to a hamstring injury, ESPN’s Adam Schefter announced on X that he would miss his third-straight game as Tyler “Snoop” Huntley is set to start against the Chicago Bears.

Hopes were high for the return of Jackson as he began the week limited in practice before being named a full participant in the last training session of the week. That optimism quickly faded as it turned out Jackson was only a part of the scout team on Friday, not taking first-team snaps and still ailing from a hamstring that has plagued him since losing to the Kansas City Chiefs earlier in the season.

The difference between the Ravens with and without Jackson has been night and day, as they’ve been cannon fodder for the rest of the league while he’s sat out. Without him, the team’s dynamic offense has lost its most important piece, leaving the team zeroing in on Derrick Henry's running game and forcing the backups to beat them with their arm.

At 1-5, Baltimore’s season is already hanging on by a thread, but the belief was that Jackson's return could be the spark that pushed the championship-caliber team back into contention. If they were to lose on Sunday to the Bears, their 1-6 record would all but eliminate them for the season.

In the history of the NFL, only one team, the 1970 Cincinnati Bengals, started with that record and made it to the playoffs. Every other team has been just another footnote on a long list of failed campaigns.
