ESPAÑOLA, N.M. —

The discovery of a body at an abandoned building fire early Sunday is under investigation by city, state and federal agencies, an Española Fire Department news release on social media said.

The structure had been a residence known for previous drug and stolen property activity, and it was already on the city's list of condemned buildings, the release said.

An investigation has begun by the Española Fire Marshal, State Fire Marshal's Office and the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

The EFD was assisted by the Santa Clara and Mesilla fire departments. No firefighters were injured during the operation, the release said.
