COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Former Ohio State center Nick Mangold passed away Saturday night from complications of kidney disease, the New York Jets announced.
Mangold was 41.
Less than two weeks ago, Mangold announced through the New York Jets community that he was diagnosed with a genetic defect that has led to chronic kidney disease. Thus, he was in need of a kidney transplant.
Mangold is currently being considered for induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
A Centerville native, he began his football career at Archbishop Alter in Kettering and enrolled at Ohio State beginning in 2002. He helped the team win the national title that season and began a storied career with the Buckeyes.
He was named a First-team All-American in 2005, as well as a Second-team All-Big Ten that same year. Ma
