A major police operation is underway at the Port of Melbourne as pro-Palestine demonstrators prepare to gather near Todd Road.
Around 30 to 40 officers, including members of the public order response team and mounted branch, have been deployed in anticipation of the rally, which is expected to begin on Friday morning.
Speaking on Sunrise live from the scene, reporter Andrew McCormack said there is “quite a strong police presence” at the site, where authorities are not taking any chances.
“Five or six horses with the Mounted Branch (are) ready to expect some protesters this morning,” he said.
The demonstration, described by organisers as a “pro-testival” with a festival atmosphere, is being held to protest against weapons manufacturing operations linked to Israel.
