Burlington County will receive $750,000 to continue preservation work at historic Smithville Park under grant recommendations announced by the New Jersey Historic Trust.

The grant will fund stabilization and repair work on 14 structures and the wall surrounding Smithville Mansion in the former 19th-century industrial village that now serves as a county park in Eastampton.

“Burlington County’s historic sites are precious assets and Smithville is unquestionably one of the most important,” Burlington County Commissioner Deputy Director Allison Eckel, liaison to the County Department of Resource Conservation and Parks, said in a statement.

The grant comes as Burlington County marks the 50th anniversary of its purchase of Smithville for just over $595,000.
