Forge FC can still win their fifth Canadian Premier League championship. They’re just going to have to do it the hard way.
The CPL’s first-place club dropped a 2-1 decision to second-place Atlético Ottawa at home on Sunday which means they now have to beat either Cavalry FC or York United (which were squaring off Sunday evening) next weekend to advance to the final. That game will be in Hamilton.
With the win, Ottawa advanced directly to the final and earned the right to host the championship game on Nov. 9 at TD Place.
The home side actually jumped out front 23 minutes into the game when Daniel Choiniere took advantage of some scrambly play in front of the Ottawa net and fired the ball home.
But the visitors tied the match 10 minutes later and scored the eventual winner 13 minutes int
