INDIANAPOLIS — IMPD welcomed a new honorary officer — 12-year-old Owen Griffith.
IMPD Chief Chris Bailey swore Owen in on Friday, Oct. 24, with help from Indiana Wish .
Owen is battling a life-threatening form of epilepsy, and his family told 13News one of his wishes is to become a police officer. They said he's dreamed about this day since he was a little kid.
Owen visited IMPD East District Mounted Patrol, met officers and experienced what it's like to serve his community.
His mom, Jamie Griffith, said she's glad Owen got this experience.
"It's been a long journey and this kind of special day really helps make that journey easier on us," she said. "He's always wanted to be an officer since he even knew what they were, probably will never be a reality for him so thank you"
