SULPHUR, La. (KPLC) - An EF-0 tornado that swept through isolated parts of Sulphur early Sunday morning left behind some small destruction, but a familiar community response.

The tornado uprooted trees, damaged property and scattered debris across yards, but neighbors quickly mobilized to help with cleanup efforts.

Shawntel Alleman wasn’t home when the tornado hit, uprooting her cemented-in carport and tossing it into a tree, fence, and a neighbor’s yard. Her neighbor texted her saying, “We have a mess.”

“Your carport has now been gifted to Mrs. Catherine, so this is where the carport was and now it’s in her backyard,” Alleman said.

Within hours of the storm, neighbors had organized cleanup efforts and cleared debris from affected properties.
