WHITEWATER, Wis. (WMTV) - A homecoming celebration at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater became extra special for one couple when a planned proposal unfolded on the football field.

Lia Caruso and Michael Nielsen were participating in the alumni marching band reunion during homecoming weekend at their alma mater on Saturday. Caruso, who also works at UW-Whitewater, was busy planning Homecoming events and had no idea what Nielsen had arranged.

“Michael surprised me to say the least during the game,” Caruso said.

After they performed, Nielsen got down on one knee in the end zone to propose.

“I knew she always wanted like a Cubs game, big sports game kind of proposal and I just thought this would be so cool to go behind her back and she had no idea about any of it,” Nielsen said.
