The Desert Valley League individual girls tennis finals had a predictable matchup in the doubles competition as Indio's top two teams faced off against each other Thursday afternoon. But no one could've predicted the singles final matchup when the two-day event started.
In a wild turn of events on the DVL finals' first day of action Wednesday, three of the top four seeds, including the top players for Coachella Valley and Twentynine Palms were knocked out in their first match. That left several surprising players to fill out the semifinals, and when the dust settled it was Twentynine Palms' No. 2 player Katie Luke that took home the singles title.
