A 17-year-old male has been charged by Tasmania Police after a 20-year-old man died in an alleged stabbing near Hobart's Salamanca Place late on Saturday.

Tasmania Police officers were called to an altercation between two groups of people about midnight at the Morrison Street car park area.

"Tragically a 20-year-old man died as a result of injuries sustained in the incident, and a 23-year-old man remains in the Royal Hobart Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries," police said in a statement on Monday afternoon.
