Hidden in Brunswick County along the Cape Fear River is an old village site dating back to the 1700s.
Though many people know where the Brunswick Town historic site is located, not people know what community the town is part of.
Brunswick Town was the first permanent European settlement in the Lower Cape Fear, and it will soon be celebrating its 300th anniversary .
According to the North Carolina Division of State Historic Sites and Properties website, the town was founded by Col. Maurice Moore, son of a royal South Carolina governor, and named to honor King George I of England, who was also Duke of Brunswick in what is now Germany.
