ARCADIA, La. - Earning the Silver Star in World War II was just the beginning for Dr. Thomas Deas of Arcadia.
Known as an athlete, doctor, artist, poet and mentor, he touched thousands of lives across North Louisiana, making him this week's Hometown Patriot with Rick Rowe.
Upon returning home from the war, Major Deas settled in Claiborne Parish, where he left an equally profound civilian legacy. He was instrumental in starting the local hospital, where he delivered the first baby and signed the first death certificate. Known for his confidence and dedication, he practiced medicine, served as a deacon at First Baptist, and was also a self-trained artist and poet.
Dr. Deas passed away in 2020 at the age of 104, having dedicated his time, talent, and resources to serving his community and
