As the British Columbia Legislature prepares to reconvene this week, BC Conservative Party leader John Rustad faces mounting internal pressure over his leadership.

A new poll from the non-profit Angus Reid Institute, conducted Oct. 23–25, shows that half of those who voted Conservative in 2024 want Rustad to resign. Among current Conservative supporters, two in five say the same.

The results follow another defection from Rustad’s caucus last week and a formal letter from the party’s management committee urging him to step down. Despite the turmoil, the BC Conservatives remain statistically tied with the governing BC NDP in voter support — 41% to 40%.
