Dry, fallen leaves skittered across the concrete sidewalk outside the Seattle Public Library’s Central Library the morning of Oct. 8, tumbling directionless in the cold wind as homelessness advocates prepared to place five bronze leaves that would weather wind and time.
The leaves are headstones. There are already 17 leaves on the opposite side of the library, and 40 more placed this year across several locations.
The Rev. Pat Simpson of the Church of Mary Magdalene stood before a circle of nearly 20 people and read the names of five people who died outside: Logan Tober, Matthew Cochran, Timothy Ken
