VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) — A suspect connected to a $20 million fraud ring is in custody after turning himself in on Friday, according to the Volusia County Sheriff's Office.
In a post on social media, the sheriff's office said that a man from Staten Island, New York, identified as Hai Liu, turned himself into the Volusia County Branch Jail after detectives ID'd him in a scam that cost a Deltona woman $12,000.
They said that the victim was contacted by a fake "Apple Support" tech, which led to her purchasing $12K in Lowe's gift cards.
Detectives reported that Liu was later caught on camera using the gift cards at a Lowe's in Brooklyn.
