Rachel Zegler has insisted that the negative discourse surrounding her live-action Snow White remake cannot erase the positive experience she had making the film. The West Side Story actress first faced backlash over her casting as the Disney princess due to her Latina heritage, and she then came under fire for her criticism of the 1937 animated original. After the film was released earlier this year, Zegler was widely blamed for its lacklustre box office performance, particularly after she wrote "free Palestine" on X while promoting the trailer. As part of Glamour's Women of the Year series, the 24-year-old told her Shazam! Fury of the Gods co-star Helen Mirren that her difficult time surrounding Snow White's release cannot take away from her filming experience. "My love for the work (keeps me grounded). I am the one who showed up and did my work every day. Nobody can ever take that away from me. I made lifelong friends on that job," she said of her experience of Snow White. "That kind of family doesn't get dissipated by online discourse." The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes star noted that Snow White has been "celebrated" by many viewers, despite the wider online narrative. "Every experience I've had so far has been such a wonderful lesson learned. I loved working on (Snow White), and I love that film," she stated. "I've seen it a few times, and it (became) number one on streaming on Disney+, so I know that it's celebrated. It was one of those experiences of sometimes negativity being louder than positivity." She added, "What I took away from it is just to really, really soak in when it feels good and understand that it's possible when it feels bad." Despite her difficult start to 2025, Zegler is now riding high thanks to her acclaimed performance in the West End revival of Evita.
