Former India opener Prithvi Shaw roared back to form in style, converting his maiden hundred for Maharashtra into the second-fastest double century in Ranji Trophy Elite history on Monday in Chandigarh.

After a quiet first innings, where he managed just eight runs, Shaw produced a scintillating counterattack in the second, reaching his double ton off just 141 balls in Maharashtra’s Elite Group B clash against Chandigarh at the Sector 16 Stadium.

Resuming on Day 3, Shaw raced to his century off just 72 balls, hammering 13 boundaries — the sixth-fastest century in Ranji Trophy history.

He maintained his momentum, adding 80 runs off the next 54 deliveries to move to 180 before completing his double century in 141 balls, a feat surpassed only by Ravi Shastri’s 123-ball double
