The crime branch of Mumbai Police detained six Afghan nationals who were allegedly staying in the city using forged documents for the past few years. The six Afghanis had come to India between 2015 and 2019 on medical visa and had since stayed back.

Following the policy used in case of Bangladeshi nationals, the six will be deported to Afghanistan on Tuesday instead of registering FIRs and allowing the case to go to trial which was done earlier, an official said. Of the six, five are from Kabul while one is from Kandahar.

A senior officer said they had received a tip-off about four Afghani nationals staying in Dharavi while two were in south Mumbai . Accordingly, teams from crime branch Unit I and V tracked them down.
