Hurricane Melissa strengthened into a monster Category 5 storm early Monday, Oct. 27, as it churns slowly through the Caribbean with destructive winds, torrential rain, storm surge and catastrophic flooding that's expected to intensify in Jamaica through the day and into the night, according to the latest advisory from the National Hurricane Center in Miami.
While the eye of the storm hasn't yet reached the island, impacts are already being felt as the storm's winds extend about 195 miles outward from the center. The storm is also moving at 3 mph, essentially stalling over the islands bringing constant, steady impacts that will last for days.
