FORT DRUM, New York (WWNY) - The ongoing government shutdown is now stretching into its fourth week, and it’s hitting home for thousands of families in the North Country.
Roughly 3,000 civilian federal employees on Fort Drum are among those impacted, either furloughed or working without pay as Congress remains deadlocked.
Everett Kelley, President of the American Federation of Government Employees, says enough is enough and is calling on lawmakers to pass a clean spending bill and put every federal worker back on the job with full back pay.
Kelley says these shutdowns don’t just hurt workers; they hurt small businesses, communities, and the government’s ability to serve the public.
