The U.S. Department of Agriculture says no Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits will be issued on Nov. 1 as the government shutdown continues.
That means that roughly 457,000 people in New Mexico will not receive critical food assistance from SNAP in November unless Congress can come to an agreement.
New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham says about 21% of the state's population participates in the SNAP program. It's the highest participation rate in the country.
