GENESEE COUNTY, MI – Domestic violence victims will no longer have to pay a process server to serve personal protection orders in Genesee County.

The Genesee County Sheriff’s Office announced a change in policy on Friday, Oct. 24, offering deputies and detectives to serve PPOs free of charge.

Victims can walk into the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office, fill out a form and a deputy will serve their personal protection order, according to the sheriff’s office.

“The cost to have a personal protection order served should never be a barrier to keep you and your family safe,” Sheriff Chris Swanson said.

Swanson said this policy change was inspired by a bill in state government that is looking to alleviate these costs on a statewide level.
