A coyote that attacked a New Jersey resident outside of his home last week has tested positive for rabies, authorities said.

The resident was working in his yard Tuesday in the area of Oak Road in Saddle River when he was knocked to the ground and bitten multiple times, police in the Bergen County community said in a statement.

Saddle River police said the coyote was euthanized on the scene and taken by Tyco Professional Animal Control for testing.

The resident sustained minor injuries and was treated at a local hospital.

Separately, the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection’s Fish and Wildlife Division reported that a coyote tested positive for rabies after biting a man on the leg while he was on a ladder on Dogwood Drive — also in Saddle River — on the same day.
