At long last, the Dallas Mavericks are retiring Mark Aguirre's No. 24 jersey.

Aguirre was a small forward coming out of DePaul University when the Mavericks selected him as the team's first-ever top pick in the 1981 NBA Draft.

Aguirre, 65, played eight seasons (81-89) with the Mavericks before being traded to Detroit, where the Pistons then went on to win back-to-back championships in 1989 and 1990. In 566 total games with the Mavs, he averaged 24.6 points, 5.7 rebounds and 3.8 assists, while shooting .492 from the field.

The team said Monday that it will retire Aguirre's #24 on Jan. 29, 2026, during a special halftime ceremony. He'll join only four other Mavericks players whose jerseys hang from the rafters of the American Airlines Cente
