Rutgers University's Alpha Sigma Phi fraternity chapter has been permanently closed following a serious hazing incident earlier this month . A 19-year-old student was critically injured after being electrically shocked and coming into contact with water at the fraternity's College Avenue house. The incident occurred on October 15 and was discovered after authorities responded to a disconnected 911 call.

The national fraternity confirmed hazing was involved , leading to the chapter's closure. The house, which had a history of building code violations, was vandalized before members could retrieve their belongings. University police reported damage to doors and missing items, but found no signs of forced entry.
