ONAWAY — Presque Isle Electric & Gas Cooperative announced that the Federal Emergency Management Agency has denied its Category F appeal for damages from the March 2025 ice storm, the most destructive event in the cooperative’s history.
In an Oct. 24 news release from the company, officials said the decision, which was issued Oct. 23, follows PIE&G’s request for federal reimbursement for permanent infrastructure repairs.
The storm caused widespread outages across Northern Michigan, damaging or requiring the replacement of thousands of poles, transformers, and miles of power lines. Restoration and recovery costs have reached nearly $150 million.
“FEMA’s decision is disappointing and difficult to understand,” said Allan Berg, chief executive officer of Presque Isle Electric & Gas Cooperat
