LSU Tigers head football coach Brian Kelly has been fired midway through his fourth season, the program announced Sunday night.
Kelly’s firing came one day after No. 20 LSU (5-3 overall, 2-3 in SEC) lost at home to No. 3 Texas A&M, 49-25, on Saturday. LSU led 18-14 at halftime before the visiting Aggies scored 35 unanswered points in the second half.
“When Coach Kelly arrived at LSU four years ago, we had high hopes that he would lead us to multiple SEC and national championships during his time in Baton Rouge,” LSU director of athletics Scott Woodward said in a news release . “Ultimately, the success at the level that LSU demands simply did not materialize, and I made the decision to make a change after last night’s game.
