The 10th week of Iowa high school football , and the first full week of playoff competition, is quickly approaching.
There were some exciting games to close out the regular season in Classes 5A, 4A and 3A, and in the opening round of the 2A, 1A, A and 8-player playoffs during Week 9.
Among the top games to end the regular season in 5A, 4A and 3A were then-4A No. 8 Gilbert's 49-18 trouncing of No. 4 North Polk to clinch the 4A District 5 title and 3A No. 1 Clear Lake's 28-0 dismantling of No. 3 West Delaware to wrap up the 3A District 2 title for the Lions. In 5A every top-10 team dominated with a victory by 24 points or more.
The first round of 2A, 1A, A and 8-player playoff action saw No. 10 Van Meter crush South Tama County by a 45-6 score, Cherokee win a 58-57 thriller over Spirit
