Gov. Ron DeSantis made an appearance at New College of Florida on Monday morning to announce that the winner of the Florida Civics and Debate Initiative (FCDI) State Championship will receive a trophy named to honor Charlie Kirk , the conservative activist assassinated in September.

“I know it was very devastating for a lot of people,” DeSantis said about Kirk’s death. “But that said, when this happened, people who didn't know who Charlie Kirk was were watching his videos. You're starting to see more young people take an interest and be educated, and now they want to get involved.”
