OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - The first meeting of the Omaha Tribe of Nebraska’s Cannabis Commission is being held today to swear in members and appoint officers.

The meeting’s agenda also lists that a review and possible approval of the board’s regulations could also happen today, which would launch Nebraska’s first workable, regulated cannabis industry.

This comes as the State of Nebraska’s own cannabis commission has faced a series of setbacks and backlash from residents.

The meeting is being held in Macy, Neb.

Previously, John Cartier, Attorney General for the Omaha Tribe of Nebraska, said the decision to make their own board was “out of necessity.”
