One person has died and another was airlifted to hospital following a crash near Third Concession Road, north of Pickering, on Monday morning, Durham Region police say.

According to police the crash occurred just before 11 a.m. and involved at least two vehicles.

The injured victim was airlifted to a Toronto-area trauma centre, an ornge spokesperson told CBC Toronto via email. It's not clear yet the extent of their injuries.

Police have not yet released any details about the identities of those involved, or the cause of the crash.

The investigation is ongoing, and police say the scene will be closed for an extended period due to the severity of the crash.
