President Trump rattled an angry saber at Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday, reminding the communist leader that the United States has state-of-the-art submarines and weaponry “right off their shores.”
“We have a nuclear submarine, the greatest in the world, right off their shores,” and so “we don’t need to go 8,000 miles,” Trump said aboard Air Force One as he prepared to go to Japan.
The president’s remarks came after Putin, facing pressure from the White House to give up the war with Ukraine, boasted about the test flight of a nuclear powered missile capable of traveling at least 8,700 miles.
Chief of General Staff Valery Gerasimov said the Burevestnik was tested on Oct. 21, according to footage of a meeting with military commanders posted on the Kremlin’s Telegram channel.
