The closure of a north Huntsville bar and grill “may have already saved lives,” according to a brief filed by the city’s attorney.
City Attorney Trey Riley made the statement in support of a preliminary injunction by Madison County Circuit Judge Ruth Ann Hall closing of 708 Bar & Grille at 708 Poplar Ave. NW on Sept. 17. Hall held a hearing on Oct. 15 regarding a motion by the establishment’s owners to reconsider the injunction.
Riley’s brief cited testimony from a police officer that “if this business remains open, we’re going to need the courts to help us curb these acts of violence, these continuous violations of law, and eventually there is going to be another shooting, possibly a loss of life.”
