The Corpus Christi Type B Corp. on Oct. 27 approved hiring an Austin-based law firm to represent the entity in a civil lawsuit involving the downtown Homewood Suites by Hilton development.

Hyde Kelley LLP will represent the economic development corporation, which is part of the city of Corpus Christi.

In late 2023, the board authorized an agreement to give $2 million in taxpayer incentives — which the City Council ultimately approved — to the developers of the downtown hotel. That funding is at the center of a lawsuit against the city and Mayor Paulette Guajardo that claims the hotel developers misrepresented information from the Federal Emergency Management Agency when they requested the funds from the Type B Corp.
