For the first time in years, Salem will soon have a branch library open every day of the week.
City officials announced Monday that the Salem Public Library is expanding hours in mid-November, including restoring Sunday service at the main branch and opening the West Salem Library on Mondays.
That comes after voters in May approved a property tax increase to shore up what had been a substantial city budget deficit. One of the promises of the tax was expanding library hours following cuts in 2024.
The new hours take effect Monday, Nov. 10.
Salem’s main branch at 585 Liberty St. S.E., will be open an hour later, until 7 p.m., Tuesdays through Thursdays, and add Sunday service back. In total, it will be open 48 hours per week, up from the current 38.
