Srinagar, Oct 27: The Jammu and Kashmir government on Monday said that no dedicated central scheme or budget allocation currently exists for the development of offbeat tourist destinations across India.
The Tourism Department said it has already identified Gurez Valley as a potential offbeat destination and is taking steps for its upgradation at the UT level.
In a written reply in the Assembly, the Tourism Department said that Gurez Valley was awarded the “Best Off-Beat Destination in India (Gold)” in 2022, recognising its pristine natural beauty, unique landscape, and sustainable tourism appeal.
The department added that as and when a central scheme for offbeat destinations is launched by the Government of India, Gurez will be formally recommended for inclusion.
