A 60-year-old Blachly man was arrested Oct. 25 after he allegedly assaulted two people with a baton, menaced them with an axe, and lit his house on fire in the 20200 block of Highway 36.

Deputies responded to the scene around 3 p.m., according to the Lane County Sheriff's Office. They tried to contact the 60-year-old man, however, he responded by throwing objects at deputies.

An armored rescue vehicle and drone were deployed so deputies could remain in contact with the man from a safe distance. After several hours of negotiation, the man set his house on fire and attempted to flee.

A deployed K9 Tito apprehended the man in a carport attached to the burning house, law enforcement officials said. He allegedly fought with deputies and the K9 as the fire progressed, engulfing the home.
