FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - A 22-year-old Fort Wayne man is facing a murder charge for his alleged role in the deadly shooting of a teen on Fort Wayne’s southeast side last week.
Malachi Byrd is being held at the Allen County Jail without bond. He’s accused of a role in 17-year-old Nyree Jones’ shooting death last Wednesday in the 3500 block of South Lafayette Street.
The victim’s mother told police that she was in their home when she heard gunshots, according to court documents obtained by 21Investigates. Soon after, Jones came through the front door, saying he had been shot.
She said her son was trying to sell an iPhone, court records show. The mother said the Cash App payment was taking a while to go through and Jones was shot while waiting for it.
