The woman convicted of sexual assault along with a prominent Montreal doctor will serve no time behind bars for the crime.
In a decision made Monday afternoon at the Montreal courthouse, Quebec Court Judge Suzanne Costom said the evidence presented during Wendy Devera’s sentence hearing indicates she is already rehabilitated and has done work with a sexologist to better understand the concept of consent.
Devera received a sentence of two years less one day that she can serve in the community. The first 12 months of the sentence will involve house arrest. During the other 12 months, Devera will have to follow a series of conditions, including a curfew. The sentence will be followed by two years of probation.
