Once the headphones are on, Max Scherzer cannot be disturbed.
Set to start Game 3 of the World Series, the man affectionately known as ‘Mad Max’ will follow a very strict routine that his Toronto Blue Jays teammates have learned to abide by or face the consequences.
First baseman Ty France was acquired at the July 31 trade deadline along with Louis Varland. Entering his seventh season in the Majors, France was well aware of who future Hall-of-Famer Scherzer is but not quite his game day rituals.
Scherzer has an intense personality and cranks it up to another level on the days he’s pitching. He has a game day routine that includes fueling himself on adrenaline by putting his headphones on and blocking out anyone and everyone around him. That includes coaches, teammates and family.
