With the potential for a federal government shutdown to stretch into another week, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits could soon be disrupted for thousands of Oklahomans. President and CEO Alison Anthony discussed how residents can turn to 211 Eastern Oklahoma for help.

Growing Need For Food Assistance

Anthony said the 211 hotline has already seen a steady demand for food assistance, even before the shutdown began.

"Even last year, 4,000 people called and said, 'We need help with food resources,'" she said. "We know food prices are high. We know people are challenged."

She emphasized that if SNAP benefits are halted, 211 expects call volume to rise sharply as more families struggle to access food.
