Alberta NDP Leader Naheed Nenshi, in his question period debut, opened with a series of pointed questions and comments to Premier Danielle Smith around the current state of education as the province prepares to table legislation to force teachers back to work.

Nenshi was elected as the MLA for Edmonton Strathcona at the end of June after being elected leader of the Opposition in June 2024.

His first sitting in the legislature comes at a time when 51,000 teachers across the province are entering week four off the job. Nenshi and Smith went toe-to-toe in the opening of the fall sitting launching accusations at each other, along with bringing up past quotes.
