Some of those people have already been furloughed; others missed their first paycheck since the shutdown on Friday.
Two women who have been furloughed from their jobs at the Internal Revenue Service were both looking for temporary work at the Full Employment Council in Kansas City, Missouri, on Monday.
At Kansas Workforce in Kansas City, Kansas, Angel Lei-Keil, who is not a federal employee, was looking to change career paths from her job as a nurse.
She said she believes the shutdown will make her search more challenging.
