Last week, leaders within the Young Republican groups were thrust into controversy after their private Telegram group chat was leaked, exposing racist, misogynist and highly insensitive text messages.
Politico obtained 2,900 pages of chats revealing offensive text messages shared among Young Republican National Federation —including leaders from New York, Kansas, Arizona, and Vermont—between January and August of this year.
The leaked chat, titled “RESTOREYR WAR ROOM,” contained not only discussions about social media strategy and logistics, but also repeated use of racial slurs, jokes about rape and slavery, and references to gas chambers and Nazi slogans.
Members referred to Black people as “monkeys” and made casual references to violence. According to Politico, terms like “f—-t,” “retarded,” and “n–ga” appeared more than 250 times throughout the chat logs.
“Such behavior is disgraceful, unbecoming of any Republican, and stands in direct opposition to the values our movement represents,” wrote the Young Republican National Federation’s board of directors in a post on Instagram .
A complete list of Young Republicans involved:
- Bobby Walker – New York
- Peter Giunta – New York
- Joe Maligno – New York
- Alex Dwyer – Kansas
- William Hendrix – Kansas
- Annie Kaykaty – New York
- Luke Mosiman – Arizona
- Samuel Douglass – Vermont
- Brianna Douglass – Vermont
At one point, Walker reportedly wrote, “If we ever had a leak of this chat we would be cooked fr fr.”
Highlights From the Leaked Messages
Here is a list of the most egregious messages referenced violence, genocide, and rape:
- Peter Giunta: Everyone that votes no is going to the gas chamber. And everyone that endorsed but then votes for us is going to the gas chamber.
- Bobby Walker: When do we start bullying dude?
- Annie Kaykaty: We have a solid 3 people who can prob have them want to jump
- Bobby Walker: If they vote for us why would they be gassed?
- Luke Mosiman explicitly calling for the rape of Young Republican National Federation Chair Hayden Padgett: “RAPE HAYDEN.”
- Racial slurs targeting Asians, including Walker’s remark: “My people built the train tracks with the Chinese.”
Alex Dwyer commented: “Trump’s too busy burning the Epstein files.”
To this date, only Bobby Walker and Peter Giunta have issued public apologies.
The Young Republican’s board of directors announced the resignation of everyone involved, and stated “We must hold ourselves to the highest standards of integrity, respect, and professionalism.”
