SALEM, Ohio (WKBN ) - From backyards to front porches, a growing number of stray cats are causing problems across Salem.

After years of frustration, city leaders are finally taking action, with the help of volunteers. Brenda Austin is the city's new trap, neuter, and release (TNR) coordinator. Armed with traps, she's trying to tackle the city's feral cat problem.

"The health department gets calls. I get calls. We know the problem is everywhere," Austin said.

Salem has allocated $2,000 for the TNR program. And for the first time in years has filled its animal control officer position. Sara Oaks was sworn in earlier this month.
