Ohio farmers are nearing the finish line for harvest as the month of October draws to a close. With the government shutdown, we turned to social media to ask farmers how harvest has been progressing. Here are the main takeaways from this week’s social media poll: • Soybean harvest is nearly complete. A few farmers reported some isolated fields standing, mostly due to late-planting, replanting, or double-crop beans. • Corn harvest progress is mixed, with ranges from 0% to 85% complete for most farmers. • A few farmers in western Ohio counties, like Mercer, Auglaize, Miami and Union counties reported harvest completion. • Wheat planting and emergence are progressing well. • Other fall activities, such as baling corn stalks, spreading fertilizer, and tillage is also underway.
