MARTINSBURG — The Eastern Panhandle will be well represented this weekend at the state cross country meet after a strong effort by local runners in Saturday’s Class AAAA North Region meet.

In the boys competition, Jefferson, Spring Mills and Musselman qualified as a team, with the Cougars (67) finishing third, the Cardinals (152) fifth and the Applemen (163) sixth.

Jefferson had three runners in the top 10, including Shane Burkhardt in sixth with a time of 16 minutes, 32.6 seconds, Scott Leonard in seventh with a time of 16:44.2 and Levi Young in eight with a time of 17:22.5. Other runners for the Cougars included Kieran Laughner (19th, 17:52.9), Liam Kessel (26th, 18:22.1), Matthew Hayes (28th, 18:30.2) and Jacob Hickey (52nd, 20:07.4).
