Origin Story: Iron Man started as a comic book in 1968, but the popularity of the character exploded with Robert Downey Jr.’s portrayal of the hero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, starting with the 2008 movie named for the title character and the series of “Avengers” movies to follow.
