MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- The USDA says SNAP benefits will not be issued on November 1st because of the government shutdown.
On Saturday, hundreds and thousands of SNAP recipients in Tennessee, Mississippi, and Arkansas will not have any assistance with purchasing food.
The USDA’s memo reads in part, “Bottom line, the well has run dry. There will be no benefits issued November 1st.”
“I think it’s very insensitive and very insane of the government to let something like this happen. I think a lot of people in government forget that the normal people make the world run, make your country run, but you’re more worried about money and what’s benefiting you, than your people starving and hungry,” said Ashley, Memphis resident.
